催化燃燒使用表面含有貴金屬和金屬氧化物的催化劑。在鉑和鈀的作用下,有機污染物的廢氣在較低的溫度下可氧化為二氧化碳和水。催化劑的加入不能改變原有的化學平衡,變化的只是化學反應的速率,但催化劑本身的性質在反應前后不發生變化。該催化燃燒裝置主要由活性炭吸附箱、避雷器、換熱器、催化反應床和風機組成。與直接燃燒比擬,催化燃燒溫度更低,燃燒更完整。
